Welcome to our Native Plant Store
We are now accepting orders for our 2025 Native Plant Sale!
PLANT INFORMATION:
Most of the plants offered in our sale are 1- to 2-year-old bare-root seedlings (no soil on the roots) that typically range in size from 8” to 24” other than a couple specialty species that are “plugs” that are grown in seedling trays. These plants tend to be smaller in stature, and may only be 3” or so tall at delivery.
Conifer trees are sold in bundles of 25, and most deciduous trees and shrubs are sold in bundles of 10, with the exception of specialty shrub species sold in bundles of 5.

ALL SALES ARE FINAL: Once an order is placed we are unable to make changes, so please review your order carefully before placing it. Unless prior arrangements are made, plants not picked up on your chosen pick-up date may be donated to restoration projects. Refunds are not available for plant orders that are not picked up.
Red Alder
Red Alder
Bundle of 10 trees
Description
Alnus rubra is a familiar tree has thin, smooth, gray bark and grows 30-120 feet tall. Leaves are deciduous, alternate, three to six inches long, broad and elliptic, with pointed ends. Male and female flowers appear on the same tree, and the small, winged seeds are shed August to October from small, brown cones that remain on the tree for several years. This tree is greatly under-valued, although it is a quick grower and fixes nitrogen, which make it particularly useful for stabilizing disturbed soils and revegetating nutrient-poor soils.
Habitat
Grows in various types of disturbed soils; tolerates drought, flooding, or brackish conditions. Full sun to partial shade. Typically mixed with other trees, but can form pure stands in nutrient-poor soils or on logged-over or otherwise disturbed lands.
Beneficial Uses
Deer and elk browse the leaves, as do large numbers of invertebrates (which in turn feed many insect-eating bird species). Beaver use the branches. Larger trees provide habitat for numerous cavity-nesting birds and small mammals.
